How to know if you are dealing with stress?
While worries and problems are present in everybody’s life, there are certain signs that might indicate that you are dealing with more than that. Stress and anxiety disorders are incredibly easy to miss if you are not actively paying attention to the actions and reactions you’re taking in order to handle and overcome situations that make you feel troubled.
Signs of stress and anxiety:
- Difficulty in concentrating.
- Forgetfulness.
- Lack of apatite
- Frequent headaches
- Nausea
- Pessimism
- Problem sleeping.
While these symptoms alone might not be a clear indicator of suffering of stress or anxiety disorder, one of the most frequent reasons why these conditions go unnoticed is because they’re underestimated until they take a turn for the worse. You need to be objective and face the fact that you might be suffering from it without even knowing. For college students, getting professional assistance is ideal, as this can help them handle the problem from the base and avoid the related problems with leaving it unattended, as this can lead to more severe problematics.
As a college student, I had to face these challenges myself, and here are some things that I learned that helped me deal with it in an efficient manner. These made me more productive and are lessons that have carried me through my current position, as they are not only effective for academics but also applicable to the labor field.
Take care of yourself: Not taking care of your health while under stress is normal, as your mind is wandering over the problems, but this does not mean that you can’t change it. Make sure to eat and do things that please you, in order to feel better and have the energy to face the challenges.
Sleep adequately: Skipping night sleep is hell, and it wreaks havoc on your body. While yes, at night you can be more productive, the reality is that you need to sleep at least 6 straight hours in order to feel rested. Avoid studying during the night and allow your body to recharge correctly.
Learn your limits: One of the things that affect people in college is wanting to do everything. You need to learn what your limits are and work around them in order to fit the challenges in your life. While these are opportunities to learn and grow, sometimes you need to learn to say “no” and be okay with it.
Practice beforehand: Practice makes then master, and while sometimes you might feel like you want more hours in the day to do certain things, there are moments where investing precious minutes during trials and practices are the difference between success and failure. If something is particularly stressful to you, practice until you feel completely comfortable doing it.
