Dorm Life: How to Make it Home

This is the experience of a lifetime, so make the most out of it!

Dorms are incredible places to spend time while in college. There’s nothing more life changing than sharing space with other people that are enrolled in the same institution as you, working their way into the courses they are listed in. For a big part of the superior education students, the need to move out of home it’s real, as few of them are lucky to have the institution close to their hometown. If you are part of this huge number of students, then it’s time for you to transform your dorm into your particular bit of heaven. This will help you reach your academic goals and make you feel energized whenever you are in that space. Read along to find some handy tips to transform a dorm or residence into a place to enjoy and feel comfortable!

  • Hang fairy lights: For college students, get places to hang pictures and important information might not be easy with the limitations of space and what can and cannot be placed. Hanging fairy lights solves this problem and gives you place to hang pictures.
  • Use washi tape: You don’t know how you can place decorative items on the walls? Use washi tape to create patterns, frames or other shapes you want. The perk: they are movable, so whenever you have a different requirement or be moved, you can take them down and make them up again.

  • Make pompoms: If you want to decor your room and make it girlier, then pompoms are the way to go. They are done with tissue paper and a bit of patience, but the result it’s incredibly worthy. You can find tutorials basically everywhere over the Internet. The best thing about them is that you can pick every single color in them.

  • Create a personalized desk: Sometimes, desks can be a hassle to transport while having the necessary storage. You can pick a small bookshelf and add a board on top, or ask a handy friend to create it from a board and other elements. Keep it simple. In the top, have only essential items and don’t fill it with nicknacks.

  • Get a “Me” station: This is the area where foodies will have the most fun. Use a mini-fridge, a portable oven and/or a microwave, a coffee maker and other small kitchen appliances that you can have in your room. This area is for you to eat and snack. Pack it up with healthy items. This will make you feel energized and will be your personal space.

At Marconi International University, we always look for ways to make students feel comfortable in what they are doing. If they live in dorms, then turning it into their own personal space it’s ideal for them. Personalizing their room it’s vital for them to feel energized and happy whenever it’s time to study. That’s why now this is the day to look at your room and transform your dorm into a place where you feel at home!
