Wardrobe Staples for any College Student

Avoid giving the wrong image to your professors and classmates by wearing something that doesn't suit your spirit. 

College requires people to do an 180° turn in their lives. It requires them to be a part of the adult world and to be immersed in a place with a different mindset as far as clothing goes. With that in mind, freshman students need to do a renewal of their wardrobes. But this can be done at any point of your academic experience to improve the impact it has on your future. The right outfit can mean the world for college students going to interviews or heading to someone’s house to meet the parents. For that reason, I bring you a simple list of items every college student must have. For male or female, these essentials are slightly different but can be combined to create the perfect personal design for each of them. So, read along and prepare your closet for a shake up!

Assorted sneakers

Black, white, or multi-colored, they are the ideal combo for you. Pick models that can be worn with other items, like jeans or dresses for girls, and jeans and sweatpants for guys. They are comfortable and great items for a quick run up to class or to ran errands, as well for a casual outfit.

Neutral colored tees

Ideally, every closet’s wardrobe should have at least 5 tees in neutral tones. Why? They are easy to combine! The bonus is that if you invest in them, these can last a lifetime of wear and tear. Olive, black, white, gray and sand are the ideal colors for you to shape up a nice and crisp outfit every single time. The best perk? With different accessories as jackets, cardigans, open sweaters and blazers, they can form infinite combinations of outfits.

Simple jeans

I mean the traditional jeans: basic colored. They have to be easy to change up with each top and shoes. Make sure they are comfortable and fit correctly. Remember: fit it’s not tight. So avoid feeling tired of wearing your pants at the end of the day. For girls, in this category, a high waisted pair of jeans it’s a necessity, as you can tuck any tee or sweater and create a new combination.

Colored and patterned tees

Pops of color are allowed and encouraged in your wardrobe. These pieces have a less combinable nature but can add the extra fun to your outfit. Striped, polka-dotted, with a fun printed t-shirt, they’re great options. They can be layered or you can add an accessory like a scarf to change it up a bit.

Jacket

A great jacket is your best friend. The ultimate layering tool. Jackets are fun ways to spice up any outfit for a chilly day or a night out. Remember to invest in them, as they are going to resist some wear as you’ll never want to take them off. A black leather jacket it’s quintessential, and you have million of models to pick from.

Business look

Remember the blazer? Well, they are a key piece in this outfit. Serious and formal wardrobe are essentials, they need to be present on your closet. The reason why? They are vital for interviews and presentations. Pick at least two tops and you can almost surely use the same bottom and shoes. Remember to keep shoes and bottoms classic and neutral for you to use them when needed. Just change the top and you are good to go.

Sport Outfit

College needs to be a place where you love yourself first. So, pack a sports outfit and wear them frequently. Get involved in physical activities such as sports and yoga, as they are great for both your mind and body. Make them comfortable and make sure to take them out to do physical exercise at least three times a week.

Scarfs

For chilly nights or days when you want to add a simple extra, the use of scarfs it’s ideal. They are cheap additions to your wardrobe and ideally, you can use them over simple tees or patterned ones, to make something look completely different. For girls, this is especially important, as there are various ways to transform a simple scarf into the star of an outfit.

Combine these outfits to make something unique for your personality and needs. Remember, college is a place to fully know and express yourself, so enjoy it through your clothes.
