| Remember to make the most out of your shared time in group study sessions. |
Study sessions are mostly a loner thing for most people. They offer chances for you as a student to acquire knowledge in a self-controlled environment, that way they can pick up information in their own time. But what happens when you have little time to study and a lot of material to work with? Then the best option is to organize group study sessions. Why? Because there’s a distinctive improvement in the cognitive processes when you work with other people to reach your goals. Right now you must be wondering: “How exactly do I know if these group study sessions work for me?” Well, here we are to break it down for you!
Do you have a hard time staying focused?
Group study sessions have one benefit that’s incredibly effective: social pressure. When you are with your peers, if they are a focused group, you’ll have a harder time distracting yourself. Why? Because these people are focused on one important task, and you’ll surely want to stay as focused -and productive!- as them.
Are you stuck on a subject?
If you are having a particularly hard time understanding some lessons, then you can have some solutions to your problem with a study group. They can help you get the necessary information, or even break it down for you to understand the problem or subject more easily. That way you can get it out of the way. This principle also goes to other people, as you can be their problem solver as well.
Is the study subject long?
Sometimes, group study sessions help people break down long study subjects into little and more manageable pieces, helping the group learn and explain it better to others. This type of learning is particularly effective for people that are auditory and kinesthetic, as is gives them the chance to use their senses in order to gather the information.
Did some of these questions ring a bell on you? Then maybe it’s time for you to find or create a group to study. But remember, that they need to be people that are focused on academics, and that have less chances of straying away from the subject at hand in order to talk or distract the group. Once you create a cohesive and effective study group, I’m sure that you’ll see improvement on your academic growth!
Here at Marconi International University, we encourage people to share the knowledge. This can be done by working in study sessions or working out other ways to learn that are as effective and practical for every single member of our student’s body.
