| Even if you are sleeping, it doesn't mean you are resting. |
I’m sure that, by now, you’re thinking: “How is this person going to give me a guide on something so simple as resting?” Well, my friend, let me tell you that every single thing you know about resting is completely wrong. While for most people, focusing on a single task for a prolonged period of time makes them feel productive, the reality is that productivity levels plummet after investing a determined period of time in a single task. For that reason, most of us end up exhausted after doing our routinary activities for a while, and it’s the main cause for tiredness and the overwhelming feeling that we hadn't quite picked up, learned or did what we wanted to do in an efficient matter.
What makes a resting session perfect?
While on a daily basis we might find sleep, breaks, and naps, chances are that you’re not using them as effectively as you can. There are a number of factors that make resting sessions perfect, and that enable the people that take them to draw the most energy from it. This means sometimes you’ll need to do your extra effort. You’ll get a chance to recharge if you rest properly. Here are some things that make a recharge session effective.
- Mental break: If you walk away to a break with your mind still mulling over all the problematics you have, you’ll miss your chance of getting a real break. Make sure to take a mental break from what’s troubling you. Practice disconnection and patience.
- The right time: Taking a small break (30min) while effective, does not have the same effect as a long (90min or more) one. These two have positive effects for different tasks: small ones are good for academics like studying or passing down notes, while longer ones are ideal for work responsibilities where stress levels are higher.
- Interact with others: Sometime, socialization is vital for a break. Talk to a friend or do some activity you like while socializing, like taking a coffee or drinking something sweet with friends or coworkers. This will allow you to relax and take a mental break from your current responsibility.
- Make it physical: Staying in one position for long periods of time can make you feel like resting is impossible, and tend lo leave you exhausted regardless of the demands of it. When you take a break, it’s ideal for you to move, walk and stretch. That will give your whole body a complete break.
- If possible, nap: Naps are proven sources of relax, and are the staple thing people do when recharging is on their minds. 30 minute naps are incredibly efficient and help boost mental functions like memory and concentration.
Here at Marconi International University, we want you to rest correctly and do the things in the most efficient way possible. Remember that when you have an integral health, you can make the most out of every single moment of your life.
