How to Pack for a Quick Trip

Make sure to pack all necessary things. Don't make a hassle out of it.

College often requires students to travel great distances from the place they come from to the institution they will spend a good chunk of their time in. Away from home and in company of friends, sometimes a quick trip might appear in the horizon. Whether it’s going back home for a quick holiday after getting two days to spare, a long weekend in the beach with friends, a national holiday that fits perfectly into your schedule, a trip to a friend’s home, sometimes you just need to be prepared to make the most out of those days. You may be mentally prepared to enjoy the time away from responsibilities, but what happens when you think of what you have to use during that period of time?

More often than not, students don’t pack effectively. They can carry a big suitcase and not have a great wardrobe, or wear things that are not going to work to the environment and particular needs they have according to the place they’re going. Ideally, you need to pack items that can be combined into an assortment of outfits, this will make your suitcase lighter and more effective. Why? Because you will have options already sorted out that can solve any surprise event, and that can be used in a variety of forms to make the most out of a quick stay.

For males and females alike, a quick trip (say less than a week) requires you to pack at least two outfits per day. That does not mean that you need to carry several complete getups to make the different items per day. The real master-packing is done through picking bottoms and tops that can be mixed with accessories for the boys like jackets, pullovers, open hoodies and cardigans; and for the ladies, dresses that can be transformed with jackets, cardigans or accessories.

A simple checklist can be used in the following way for a 3 day weekend trip:
  • Bottoms: 2 jeans, 1 simple short or skirt and more casual pants.
  • Tops: 1 t-shirt with patterns, 2 unicolor t-shirts or blouses, 1 formal blouse.
  • Accessories: 1 monochrome scarf, 1 cardigan, 1 jacket.
  • Shoes: 2 sneakers or ballet-style comfortable shoes, sandals, heels if needed.

If you are going to the beach or a place with a pool, then take at least two swimsuit getups. Add jean shorts and a flowy top to make the most out of it and a pair of flipflops to have your toes protected and comfortable.
