How to Keep Your Desk Neat

College is a responsibility. Make sure to be ready to face it with a clean desk.

You are in college and time is gold in that part of life. In fact, I bet you wish several times a week, if not every day, to have more hours during the day to be able to do all the million things you need to complete. And as the word tends to go with entropy -meaning mess will happen naturally- you room might be less than neat. This takes your concentration off balance and often can mean that your levels of productivity are reduced to the minimum, especially when the area that needs to be stay up to date with your assignments is made a living mess: your desk.

This area is one of the most frequent causes of trouble for college students when they have to keeping it organized. Sometimes, a small space can be incredibly cluttered and impede your work as a productive part of the academic world. For that reason, here are some handy tips to keep your desk organized.

Clear it all away
Put everything that doesn’t get constant use way from the desk area. You can pick up simple clear or colored boxed from every dollar store and use them to put everything away. This allows you the chance to organize those small items such as cables, clips and post-its in a neat way. Clearing the space will allow you to organize every space in your desk in a more efficiently.

Place your electronic in the center
College students need to have a personal electronic device such as laptops or tablets. This device has to be the center of your desk area, giving you space to work and take notes. Make sure to put the power cable in a way that allows you to use it and take it out whenever it’s necessary.

Put the waste bin near
Stray papers are the elements that tend to clutter a desk. For that reason, getting a small waste bin just for paper and place it near the desk area is ideal. You’ll need to find one that’s convenient enough for you to place next to your desk in order to put away every single scrap of paper or waste and avoid having a messy space.

Use just three things at the time
Avoid cluttering your desk with more than three task at the time. This means, for example, avoid having more than laptop, tablet and book; or notebook, and tablet and book on top of it at the same time. The reason for this is that you can rarely focus on many of those tasks completely while having other things near. This also makes them look cluttered and messy, impeding your study or use of those in an efficient manner.

Get a pencil holder
One of the hardest things to keep in check are the pencils and other writing instruments. For desks, the best thing you can have is a pencil holder that allows you to separate the items in different presentations, from highlighters to pencils and pens. Keep it simple, make sure to use one that doesn’t occupy much space. If you draw or use colors and markers frequently, the best thing to do is keep them in a pencil holster, and take them out whenever you need to use it.
